From Wine Advocate: The medium straw-colored 2008 Alma de Blanca Godello is sourced from a single 30 year old vineyard. Its aromas of citrus, fresh herbs, and white peach jump from the glass. On the palate, this concentrated effort delivers pit fruit and tropical flavors, plenty of minerality, good depth, and a lengthy finish. Drink it over the next three years.
From the Stock Report: Not much more than a couple of decades ago, this grape was nearly extinct. Now it is making a comeback and there are a number of really exceptional examples out there right now. This is one of the best and one of the best values from the Monterrei region in Galicia. This bodega, called Pazio das Tapias, dates all the way back to 2006 when the Mendez family, who have some four decades of viticulture under their belt, purchased it. Dry, a little like Riesling (in brightness and its ability to convey terroir), a little like Viognier, but with a crispness and subtle minerality all its own, this boasts bright white peach, tropical and citrus notes with floral aromas and surprising presence given its delicate profile. It’s entirely too easy to drink and is one of the more interesting whites in this price range. It reminds us a lot of the Louro do Bolo we sold buckets of last year.
