Malvasia

Though grown in many winemaking areas, Malvasia is mostly known as the grape that makes the great sweet Madeira wine “Malmsey”. In Italy, Malvasia is often used for Vin Santo, but it is rather rare to find varietally labeled Malvasia wines. Non-sweet Malvasias are usually fuller-bodied, and this along with the high yields that are typical makes the grape useful for fattening up blended wines.
