Parker writes..."There are 11,000 cases of the 2005 Courteillac, which was made under the consulting administration of Michel Rolland. A deep ruby color is followed by sweet black cherry and blackberry fruit, and hints of charcoal and spice. The wine exhibits medium body, sweet tannin, and lovely fruit. It is ideal for drinking over the next 5-6 years."
Finding sub-$20 dollar, 90 point 2005 Bordeaux has gotten downright impossible. Our ‘third world’ currency, along with demand for this epic vintage has made our job quite difficult indeed. But never fear, our never-ending search has turned up an incredible value. Not only did the Wine Spectator give this wine 90 points, it was also named as one of their fifty estates to deserve special attention for the vintage. Not bad when you consider the other fifty estates mentioned in the article were some of Bordeaux’s most recognizable names. But the bottom line, press or not, is that this is a lot of wine for the money. It hails from some of the finest terroir in the Entre Deux Mers and is made by renowned enologist Michel Rolland. It’s a seriously structured blend of 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Cabernet Franc that has great aging potential and is undoubtedly one of the vintage’s finest values. Who says the 2005’s are expensive?
From the Wine Spectator: "Dark in color, exhibiting beautiful aromas of blackberry, coffee and milk chocolate. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a light toasty oak and citrus fruit aftertaste. Balanced and pretty. Best after 2013."
