BRAUNSTEIN 2004 ST LAURENT GOLDBERG

This is a “tough varietal to work with in the first place, so this bright, lovely example shows quite a bit about Birgit Braunstein’s skills. She was touted as the best female winemaker in Austria, but she is clearly good without qualification. Again the profile here is something along the lines of a cool edged red with subtle streaks of mineral and fresh herbs. We read an appropriate description of this one as “a Pinot Noir with a wild side.” A wealth of expressive red fruit is the central theme but there is also enough tenderness in her wines (we have a Zweigelt, too) to really seal the deal. An impressive find here.
