MANZONE 2001 BAROLO LE GRAMOLERE RESERVA

  

Shockingly delicious, this was another recent Nebbiolo discovery that we’re currently drinking the heck out of.  Manzone’s vineyards are located in the cooler part of Monforte and their wines tend to exhibit a bit more structure and “bones” early on.  But this one was a completely different story.  Juicy, exotic, with a lavish texture and a cocoa-dusted edge to the deep, deep cherry fruit, it was wonderfully atypical for the Manzone style.  Pure in its expression but ravishing in its flavor profile, the love affair was on and we didn’t want to move on to the next wine.  Galloni 92, and actually less expensive now than its release.
