DURFORT VIVENS 2000 MARGAUX

WS 91 $25.99

Quantity:

From Wine Spectator, "Shows loads of pretty blackberry and raspberry, with a smoky undertone. Full-bodied, with fine tannins, a lovely structure and a long finish. Still tight. Best after 2010."

Okay, here is one of those deals that you can’t pass up. What we have here is a classified "Second Growth" from the much heralded 2000 vintage with a Spectator91 point score and priced well under $30 bucks! No, this is not an error or misprint, this is the real deal. Located smack-dab in the middle of the village of Margaux, this estate is unique due to the fact that it has the highest percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon (82%). The next highest is Margaux itself at 75%, which is why this wine may have needed a few years in bottle to settle down. And settle it has, and quite nicely. Black fruits intermixed with mineral, licorice, spice box, and floral characteristics. Sweet and rich, with no hard edges, lush tannin, low acidity, and a moderately long finish, it is not a huge wine built for the long haul or as the French would say, a classic "vin de garde".
