BEYCHEVELLE 2004 ST JULIEN

This wine really surprised us at the UGC tasting in San Francisco last January so when we saw it listed on a distributors list near the opening futures price, we took all they had. The estate is located just as you enter St. Julien from the south located next to heavyweight Branaire Ducru and Ducru Beaucaillou. The wines have drastically improved over the years beginning with the 1982, but really started to hit its stride with the 2000 vintage and there after. The 2004 is a very sexy bottle of claret with lots of polish and finesse. It has gobs of black cherry and currant fruit intermixed with incense and spices. This fleshy, medium to full-bodied, savory, mouthfilling wine with silky tannins and finish is a great value for a classified growth. Especially when you consider it’s pedigree and price for the 05 and 06!
