BASTIDE BLANCHE BANDOL 2006 ROSE

We aren’t going to argue with anyone that wants to say that Tempier is the standard in Bandol rose. But that kind of consistent performance gets the reputation for the winery, and the corresponding higher price tag. Bastide is right there with them in the glass, especially with this bright 2006, and noticeably less of an outlay at the register (like $12). Top Bandol pinks command higher fares, so that’s as far on the ‘deal’ stump we’re going to go. As to the wine, it’s classically delicious with that musky edge to the nose (it’s mostly Mourvedre with Grenache and Cinsault) and a slight streak of earth that adds complexity to the bright, fresh and deceptively substantial berry center. Tasty of course, but also a little ‘serious’ if you look.
