FABRE MONTMAYOU 2006 GRAND VIN

  

Before the current Argentine Malbec 'gold rush' there were a few small importers working to bring boutique, high quality labels to America.  One of the earliest players in the Malbec game was Fabre Montmayou, which we have sold for a number of years.  Their Grand Vin is one of Argentina's iconic wines but sells for half the price of their counterparts.  This is 85% Malbec, 10% Cabernet and 5% Merlot from a single vineyard planted in 1908.  That's right 100 frigging years old.  Indigenous yeasts, top French oak, no filtering, this is as pure an example of great old vine Malbec as you will ever find, all for the same price as a mediocre Napa Cab.  Wine Advocate writes that the Grand Vin 2006 is, "...an elegantly-styled wine with excellent depth, concentration, and intensity."
