CASA LAPOSTOLLE 2004 CLOS APALTA

WS 93, WA 91+ $54.99

Another of those French connection stories in South America, this one you’ll recall is the elite single vineyard cuvee of the folks at Casa Lapostolle.  Since they are connected to the Grand Marnier ownership, certainly money is not a problem.  Given that, and the fruit from 60 year old un-irrigated vines, this blend of 70% Carmenere/Merlot and 30% Cabernet sees 20 months in new French oak and has the richness to suck up that wood into one savory mouthful.  A Wine Spectator 93, as you know we are perfectly capable of coming up with our own verbiage.  But their, “Offers gorgeous aromas of crushed plum and boysenberry fruit, with notes of sweet tobacco, mocha and vanilla. Delivers a plush, silky texture through the fruit-filled finish, with a fine, buried minerality,’ is sufficiently gushing.
