Helmut Donnhoff’s 2005’s are breathtaking. To know and understand what we’re talking about you would normally have to wade through a sea of “fruity” wine (like we do) to notice the almost effortless nature of his Kupfergrube Spatlese.
After tasting this one, along with a few hundred other Spats, we’re still trying to wrap our faces around the ethereal, heavenly aspect of this covertly concentrated, red-fruit inflected dandy that lovingly embraces the vibe of 2005. And to think that the man has at least six more wines as good as this one.
