Rick Burge has two distinct vineyard blocks on his Lyndoch estate in the southern Barossa. The Draycott block is the more familiar of the two as it produces his straight Shiraz wine, definitely the more known quantity from a consumer standpoint. But the Olive Hill block is just as special, perhaps even more so due to its multiple soil types that are conducive to growing several grape varieties that can all be harvested at the top of their game every year.
This year’s model is 50% Shiraz with the balance being Grenache and Mourvedre, all aged in French oak. As usual, this is feminine, stylish and succulent, with excellent weight, ripeness and color as well as the layers of flavor and texture that comes only from the trio’s blend. . . . . . . .
