Wine Spectator writes..."Lithe and silky, with a lovely core of blackberry and floral flavors, hinting at mineral and roasted meat as the finish lingers. Drink now through 2012. 1,000 cases made. –HS"

It’s our first go-round with this new limited production label founded by Peter Schell, formerly of Turkey Flat. His initial 2004 release was a wine that we wanted to like better than we actually did, quite honestly. Great package, great vineyards, Peter’s track record, big Wine Spectator score and fair pricing all added up to what should have been one heck of a wine. Granted, it was good, it’s just that this 2005 is substantially better. The blend here is a fairly typical 40% Grenache, 32% Mourvedre and 28% Shiraz from older, low-yielding Barossa vines. Quite complex, the palate and aroma harkens more towards a great red from the Languedoc with its almost garrigue-like notes of lavender, forest floor, herb, blackcurrant and spice. That generous cranberry/cherry Grenache middle rounds out the palate and the Shiraz provides both power and structure. This is a fun one for knocking back this summer or three summers hence. Spectator 90 this year.
