THE LIST SPEAKS FOR ITSELF

Just a quick list of big gun Cabernets we put together for all the Cabernet shoppers out there to give them a quick reference. This lineup, and the attendent reviews, are pretty self explanatory and require little prose from us. We are going to make the point however that Cabernet drinker are in for a bit of a tougher time down the road. The 2010 and 2011 vintages were rather erratic from a weather perspective in California, and the last four vintages have all been "quantity challenged" which will no doubt push all domestic wine prices higher. Good hunting.

Highly Recommended by James Laube in Wine Spectator: "Offers rich, smooth, layered flavors of blackberry, wild berry, plum and cassis. Full-bodied, yet graceful and elegant, this is most interesting on the finish, where the flavors glide along and pick up a subtle lift of spice and mocha. Drink now through 2024."

Antonio Galloni writes in Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain is a huge, powerful wine that is starting to show the very earliest signs of development. An exotic melange of smoke, tar, camphor and licorice leads to expressive, fleshy fruit as the 2005 opens up in the glass. Hints of tobacco, leather, licorice and spices are layered into the finish. This is a gorgeous wine with lovely mid-palate presence and fleshiness. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2035. ... read more

Jay Miller writes in Wine Advocate: "The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon (100%) spent 33 months in 80% new French oak. It is a layered, plush, mouth-filling Cabernet that already displays complexity. Give it 3-4 years to fully blossom and drink it through 2026. The Corliss wines made with Bordeaux varietals are fermented in barrel while the Syrah is fermented in concrete tank. They all receive extended barrel aging (30-33 months) and time in bottle prior to release." read more

IWC 91

add to cart $64.99   add a case $779.88

Antonio Galloni writes in Wine Advocate: "The 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley is one of the very finest young wines I have ever tasted from Randy Dunn. Layers of dark red fruit, blackberries, flowers, mint and licorice emerge from this seamless, large-scaled wine. This is a rich, opulent 2007 that never abandons its traditional sense of structure. All of the aromas and flavors build beautifully towards the immensely rewarding, intense, seductive finish. This is a dazzling... read more

Antonio Galloni writes in Wine Advocate: "The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain is big, dark and juicy. There is an element of wildness that runs through the wine. Graphite, licorice, tar and smoke are just some of the nuances that add complexity. The 2006 boasts superb purity from start to finish. Elements of fleshiness give the impression the 2006 might drink well relatively early, until the massive tannins set in. Floral notes add freshness on the finish. This is ano... read more

Antonio Galloni writes in Wine Advocate: "A gorgeous, totally voluptuous wine, the 2009 Insignia bursts from the glass with exuberant blue and black fruit, grilled herbs, cloves and cassis. In 2009, the Insignia is silky and polished, yet there is considerable underlying tannin that needs time to soften. Layers of fruit flow effortlessly to the huge, structured finish. I imagine the 2009 Insignia will enjoy a broad drinking window. It is striking today, but also clearly has t... read more

Robert Parker writes in Wine Advocate: "The 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa, a sleeper of the vintage, exhibits a dense ruby/purple hue along with plenty of crushed rock, black currant, black raspberry, white chocolate, and earth characteristics. A supple texture, beautiful concentration, and a long finish suggest it will continue to drink well for 15-16 years. Its opaque purple color is followed by a big, layered mouthfeel with intense richness suggestive of creme de cassis, charcoal, tobacco leaf, and hints of truffles and asphalt. Full-bodied with excellent precision as well as freshness, this complex effort requires 2-3 years of cellaring, and should keep for 25+ years. As I have written... read more
